CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL
CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL
Christ Church Cathedral, built on the site of a wooden Viking church, is located in the medieval heart of Dublin.
Founded in 1028, Christ Church is also known as the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Destroyed by a fire, the church was rebuilt by the Normans during their rule, between the years 1173 and 1240.
Later, Christ Church Cathedral was left in ruins until it underwent a major restoration in the 19th century. Fortunately, today we still have the opportunity to understand what the original Cathedral of Christ was like.
The current structure, therefore, dates back to 1870 and replaces the previous wooden construction, much older, built by the will of the first Viking king after his conversion to Christianity.

Follow in the footsteps of pilgrims as Christ Church was an important pilgrimage site in medieval times, which is why it houses a collection of artifacts ranging from a miraculous cross to the heart of Laurence O'Toole, patron saint of Dublin.
A mummified cat and a rat are the most unusual inhabitants of the crypt, but also the most popular and attract thousands of visitors every year. Even mentioned by James Joyce, the protagonists of the crypt are known by the inhabitants of Dublin with the name of the famous cartoon Tom & Jerry.
